Wonder Woman - Blackest Night Style.

You gotta give it to DC. When they redesign a character, they don't fool around. This is what Wonder Woman looks like at the moment. I think the makeover is going to be VERY temporary, but that's probably a good thing. She's fun to see in action with this costume, but you don't want to mess with an icon.

Assignments

I'm taking a class at over at Schoolism.com at the moment. The course list must've been developed with me in mind. They teach comic book penciling, character design, storyboarding, and a bunch of other sweet stuff. Plus, they've got a system that actually works for web-based learning, so check them out, if you're interested.

Currently, I'm taking character design (for animation) with Stephen Silver. One of the exercises he suggests is a self-caricature based on events from the last week. It's all about drawing quickly and with confidence. It doesn't matter if the final drawing isn't polished - that's not the point. I enjoyed it.

Crosshatching struggles and a taste of me

I was never any good at crosshatching, so I pretty much never did it. (Makes sense, right?) Recently I decided it was time to conquer that beast. It's been rough, but I think I'm working it out. You tell me:

And here's some other stuff I drew recently:

My first post

I'm trying going to become a commercial artist. I want to draw for a living. This blog is to track my progress and show my process. So learn from my struggles and appreciate the sweat of my labor ... or just point and laugh. It's cool.

Oh, and just to give you an idea of who I am - I love comics, movies, animation, 80s/early90s kid culture and my girlfriend. I live in Minnesota but plan to move to California this year. I'm thinking sometime in August.
