One of the projects I recently finished was an illustration test for Lego. I did a couple of sketches and finished the one I thought showed off their product better. Hope they approve of my interpretation of their "Alien Invasion" product line. Fun stuff!

Howdy all. I just finished the studies below for my upcoming comic book project. In addition to the individual characters, I designed some combat gear for our protagonist mercenaries. I wanted each character to be easy to identify, so I didn't want to put them in helmets, or anything else that would obscure their faces and hair, even though helmets might be more "realistic" (certainly more prudent). Instead, I opted for shooting glasses, which I think give the impression of safety-mindedness without getting in the way of identities. I still have to work out a logo for Mercury, the company who owns our mercenary protagonists, which I want to emblazon on their uniforms, but I'm pretty satisfied with these as rough designs.

Character Profiles

Over the weekend, I started working on these character designs for an upcoming comic book. I really like that the writer has created an ethnically diverse cast. And because these characters will be wearing similar combat outfits, they need distinct faces for storytelling purposes.

Our tale revolves around child soldiers, born with superpowers, owned by a company named Mercury. If they don't perform well, or aren't as useful in combat, the kids are sold off to the highest bidder (usually not a nice person).

I'm excited to get to work on this project. Hope you enjoy watching it come together.

It's the Weekend!

I've been slaving away on multiple projects (that I can't show here), but now it's the weekend, so I'm free to draw blog-appropriate drawings. I did squeeze in these sketches in last night:

Coloring Exercise

I think it's important to be a well-rounded comic artist, so I practice the entire process. Today's exercise is in coloring. These pages are from a story set in the 1940s starring a retro Deadpool. They were drawn by the tremendously talented Joe Quinones.

Back From NYCC

New York Comic Con has come and gone for another year. It was great to meet so many wonderful people and put some faces to names.

Below are the Ghost pages I added to my portfolio for this convention.  I got great reactions to my work from editors, artists, and fans, which has me excited to get back home and get to work on new art. I'm going to be a lot more active on my blog in the coming months, so stop back and post a comment if you see something you like and want to see more of.

One more thing - I have to send a special thank-you to Doug and Trevor, my buddies in New Jersey, who let me stay with them during NYCC. You're the best! I doodled this memory caricature of Doug on the plane ride home. Hope you approve!
